Rafael de Jesús Navas-González was born in Jaén, Spain, in 1964. He received the degree of Licenciado en Ciencias Físicas (branch of electronics), from the University of Granada, Granada, Spain, in 1987 and the Ph.D. degree of Doctor Ingeniero en Informática from the University of Málaga, Málaga, Spain, in 2000 with a dissertation on the design of VLSI neuro-fuzzy controllers using analog and mixed signal techniques.
From January 1988 to August 1993, he was a Design Engineer in the microelectronics group of the R&D Department of Fujitsu España S.A, Málaga. During this period, he participated in several ASICs specification and design projects. In May 1993, he joined the University of Málaga, with the Department of Electronics as Profesor Asociado and since 2003 is Profesor Titular de Universidad at this university. His early research activities were focused on the field of integrated circuits for hardware implementation of fuzzy and neuro-fuzzy control algorithms, and their application in the power electronic field. Since 2003 his research activities focus on the field of advanced sensors and actuators, intelligent interfaces, microsystems integration and their applications.
